BODY

BODY

The theme inside the bug will be all metal, the door panels, the flooring, the headliner, the dash, everything but the seats. The seats will be leather lowback seats. I have this thing about plastic, something about it repels me to do all metal.

Side Metal Air Scoops = 4 inch lightweight pipe, cut in half - tack weld in flat sheet metal around to be similar to remelle air scoops. finish welding and weld onto body of car. will stimulate the Remmele air intake scoops.
Stainless Floor Pans = Use sawallz to cut out floor pans leaving a lip around, one side will have to bend upward to resemble a lip in 90 degrees angle to weld onto new metal. You'l need a Play Pen slide that has stainless steel, cut in half and weld one side onto the lip. Be sure to weld solid seams. Do the other side the same.
Metal Dash = use imagination to create a design, transfer the design onto foam sheet or cardboard is best, fit in the car before transferring onto sheetl metal. i use around 20 guage. After you cut out tack weld the pieces together and finish a solid seam all around the dash, grind welds and paint. Be sure to fit back in the bug to see if fit before painting. i welded the concaved metal bracket that was behind my original dash. so the new dash just pushes back in place like the original.
will also fab the bottom piece that comes up to the dash, should be a task. it'll have to come up to the dash and be formed with the top piece.
Door Pullers = im using square u bolts with the plates to mount behind the door panel. 3/8"x4"x3" two sets cost me around $5-7 found them at ranch supply store. plus they look good against all metal door panel.
Metal Headliner = flat sheet metal, weld to top around edges. Pinstripe a big art piece before welding.
Metal Door Panels = use a guage that will be thick enough to hold up to the door pullers. Use old door panels as a template, transfer and cut and round off edges.
Extend Fenders = cut about an inch from inside seam, tack weld in desired width all around, use a guide to go over top of fender and then do the other side to make sure they are both fitting the curved guide, then weld in fender, smooth welds with grinder. Do not warp metal or overheat it. Less body work.
Shave decklid & front fenders = remove items n weld in metal in open holes. Pinstripe big art piece on deck lid area. Give thanks to Pistol Pete for giving me this idea.
Cut out rear inner fender areas for engine = used sawzall
Cut out firewall = weld in new firewall behind rear seat with sheet metal.
Running Boards - Modified running boards from Chevy truck diamond plate.

The List above will be fab by me

Door Pullers

Picture
Heres the door pullers. simple but kewl looking.. the plate goes behind the metal door panel, which you'll make a template for the two holes and transfer onto door panel n drill two holes for the handle to go into. Goto your ranch supply store, pick up 2 square u bolts,  3/8"x4"x3", the backing plates which will cost around $5 - $7
